BBL Brazilian Butt Lift
What is BBL?
BBL stands for “Brazilian Butt Lift.” It is also commonly known as “Brezilian Butt”
In medical terms, BBL refers to a cosmetic procedure where a patient’s own fat tissues are extracted from the waist, abdomen, and lower back regions and then injected into the buttocks to enhance their appearance.
BBL is one of the most modern and widely performed aesthetic plastic surgery procedures for enhancing the aesthetics of the hips and buttocks.
Why butt aesthetics?
When viewed from the front and side, the transition between the waist and hips is one of the most crucial aesthetic areas in the female body. Curves, prominent and plump areas, harmony in the transition regions, and lines emphasize attractiveness and femininity.
Irregularities and volume losses in the hip and buttock region can negatively impact the overall body composition. Sagging can occur in the hip and buttock areas. These shape irregularities can be structural (genetic) or may result from aging, weight fluctuations, and post-pregnancy processes.
Creating ideal curves when viewed from the front and side, i.e., achieving an “hourglass” appearance, significantly contributes to a holistic impression. Therefore, buttock and hip aesthetics are essential.
Methods Used in Butt and Hip Aesthetics
Various approaches are used in buttock aesthetics and hip aesthetics in modern aesthetic and plastic surgery. These approaches and surgical techniques can be summarized as follows:
- Buttock Implant (Prosthesis)
- BBL and Fat Injection
- Gluteal Implant and BBL Combination
- Gluteal Lifting (Butt Lift)
Each of the three main approaches mentioned above has been successfully applied in suitable patients in Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery for many years.
Each of the above methods can achieve excellent results. Selecting the appropriate procedure for each patient is crucial for achieving optimal results. Therefore, an examination and consultation by a Aesthetic and Plastic surgeon are essential.
Suitable Candidates for BBL
BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) can be performed when there is excess fat in the waist, abdomen, and lower back regions, structural (genetic) reasons, sagging due to weight fluctuations or decreased skin elasticity. Younger age and good skin elasticity in the patient yield better results.
In patients who have undergone stomach reduction surgery or gastric sleeve surgery and experience rapid weight loss, skin elasticity is impaired, and significant sagging occurs, especially in patients who are middle-aged or older. If these patients are especially middle-aged or older, BBL may be insufficient to achieve the desired appearance. In such cases, Gluteal Lift or Buttock Lift surgeries should be preferred.
Generally, in patients with minimal localized fat in the waist and abdominal area or in patients who expect an overly pronounced result from buttock aesthetics, Gluteal implant or Gluteal implant combined with BBL can be considered.
Is BBL Only about Fat Injection?
BBL is not solely about fat injection. Liposuction performed meticulously in the waist and abdominal areas, and if necessary, the hip and lower back regions, is one of the most critical components of this procedure.
Performing a precise liposuction procedure in areas with significant excess fat in the waist and abdominal regions can reveal the hip and waist curves.
Technologies like Vaser, used for liposuction, not only remove excess fat but also tighten the skin in the liposuction areas.
Why Fat Injection?
Advantages of using Fat Tissue in Buttock and Hip Aesthetics can be summarized as follows:
- First and foremost, using the patient’s own tissues for buttock aesthetics yields the most natural and healthy results.
- When taken under suitable conditions, the patient’s own fat tissue maintains its vitality and can survive in the injected area.
- Fat tissue taken from the patient does not create an artificial appearance and feels like normal tissue when touched.
- Compared to gluteal implants, BBL surgery is less painful.
- Complications such as displacement and rotation that may occur with gluteal implants are not observed after BBL surgery.
- Fat tissue also contains Stem Cells, which increase the skin’s quality and moisture when injected.
Along with all these advantages, BBL surgery also carries significant risks of complications. Therefore, it is essential to have the procedure performed by a skilled surgeon under controlled conditions with appropriate amounts of fat injection to the ideal depth.

Quick Info
After a detailed consultation with Dr. Andaç Aykan, patients who decide a surgery must have a general examination by a specialist doctor at the Anesthesiology Department of Yeditepe University Koşuyolu Hospital at least 1 day before the operation and necessary blood tests will be requested. In the evaluation of the anesthesiologist, a certificate of conformity is issued for our patients who are suitable for surgery. Patients whose anesthesia consent is not given are not operated on for safety reasons.
Depending on the number of areas to be treated and the amount of fatty tissue removed, it takes 2-5 hours.
The procedure is done under general anesthesia. This form of anesthesia allows blood pressure levels to be controlled, and surgery is performed bloodlessly. Thus, the possibility and amount of bruising and swelling after the surgery is reduced.
We recommend 1 night of hospitalization to closely monitor our patients who had the operation under general anesthesia.
No significant pain is expected after the BBL operation. Painkiller treatment is routinely continued as a precaution during hospitalization.
A BBL corset designed from medical fabric is worn after the BBL process. This corset reduces edema and preserves the newly formed body shape and curves. We recommend using this corset for about 4 weeks, although it varies depending on the body areas operated.
