The Role of BBL Light Therapy in Skin Blemish Problems

Skin spots are actually a disorder of the skin’s color-giving cells. The cells we call melanocytes produce a pigment called melanin. This pigment is dark in color (brown, black). When produced in large quantities on the skin’s surface, they appear as “spots” when viewed from the outside. Skin spots can occur due to aging, or they can occur structurally at an earlier age. Exposure to sunlight naturally causes melanocytes to produce excessive melanin pigment, resulting in the formation of spots.

With the help of modern technological devices, it is possible to treat skin blemishes with high-energy light treatments adjusted to wavelengths that target melanin pigment. BBL Light Therapy is an effective method used for this purpose today.

What is BBL Light Therapy (Broad Band Light)?

BBL (Broad Band Light) is a light therapy method used for skin renewal and rejuvenation. This technology increases collagen production under the skin, evens out skin tone, reduces skin blemishes, redness and fine wrinkles. It is also effective in treating acne scars and sun damage. The wavelengths of the high-energy light beams are adjusted with filters selected according to the appearance and depth of the skin blemish. As a result, the melanin pigment that creates the skin blemish is targeted and eliminated.

Who is it suitable for?

BBL light therapy is suitable for individuals who need skin renewal and want to improve their skin tone. Especially those who want to reduce signs of aging, lighten sunspots or get rid of acne scars can benefit from this treatment. It is also an ideal treatment method for people with skin problems such as rosacea.

BBL light therapy is generally suitable for people with the following conditions:

  1. Pigmentation Problems: Those with pigmentation problems such as sun spots, aging spots, melasma.
  2. Wrinkles and Fine Lines: Fine lines and light wrinkles on the skin.
  3. Rosacea: Those who have redness and vascular dilatation due to rosacea.
  4. Acne: Those with active acne or acne scars.
  5. Enlarged Veins: Treatment of red veins on the face or body.
  6. Skin Tone Inequalities: Those who want to correct skin color irregularities and tone differences.

Who is Not Suitable For?

BBL light therapy is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with active skin infections or scars, those with a history of skin cancer, or those whose skin is extremely sensitive to sunlight. It is also not recommended for people with open wounds, cuts or serious dermatological conditions. At Aykan Clinic, we perform a detailed skin analysis to determine if you are suitable for treatment.

BBL treatment may not be suitable for certain situations and individuals:

  1. Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women: It is generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as skin sensitivity may increase during these periods.
  2. Skin cancer: Those with active skin cancer or a history of skin cancer.
  3. Open Wounds or Active Infections: It is not applied to areas where there are open wounds, burns or infections on the skin.
  4. Tanned Skin: Treatment is not recommended on skin that has recently sunbathed or used a solarium, as the risk of side effects may increase.
  5. Use of Photosensitive Medication: It should not be applied to people using medications that cause photosensitivity (sensitivity to light).

How Long Does It Take To See Results?

BBL light therapy usually produces visible results within a few weeks. An improvement in the skin can be noticed even after the first session, but it may take 3-4 weeks and repeated sessions for full results to be seen.

How Many Sessions Should Be Applied?

BBL light therapy is usually applied in 3-6 sessions. The number of sessions may vary depending on the condition of the skin and the treatment goals. The treatment plan is adjusted depending on the person’s skin type, age and the severity of the skin problem. At Aykan Clinic, we determine the number of sessions according to the needs of your skin and ensure that you get the best results.

At What Intervals Should It Be Repeated?

BBL treatment is generally applied at intervals of 3-4 weeks. After the treatment, repeat sessions may be recommended once or twice a year to maintain the results. These intervals may vary depending on the healing process of your skin and the permanence of the results obtained.
